I was forced to stop doing the thing I loved most due to ear ringing (tinnitus). this all happened around 15 years ago and I started searching for other activities to fill that gap. however, the ringing in my ears continued to dominate my life > more than I wanted to admit…
it was only after a consultation at a tinnitus centre that something really changed. they helped me by asking one great question:
> what is the one thing you no longer do because of the ear ringing?
…making music
of course.
it was in that moment that I understood that by not making music I was allowing tinnitus to continue ruling my world. untill then, tinnitus had still been dictating my life, and, in doing so, remaining constantly present.
so, around 2021, I started making music again.
this journey resulted in my album > keep your mind out of it.
the record is about stories, emotions and experiences that I still needed to process from the time before I got the ringing in my ears. it is about the struggle of being gay and not daring to come out. it is about the moment I finally told my family and friends, the search for healing, and eventually finding my first love.
but the album is about more than the queer theme. it is also about the strange world we live in > war, fear, uncertainties and hope.
the ear ringing is still present but most of the time I’m not aware of it anymore. it stopped dominating my life when I started making music again.
in that sense the album feels like a healing album > it helped me embrace the ear ringing rather than fight it, while it also helpt to ease some of the wounds left by my struggle with being gay.
the music fits within a singer-songwriter indie style; with honest, fragile vocals and subtle guitar picking. sometimes contemplative, then gradually building toward a point, often with a climax.
rosa mainly contributed acoustic guitar, vocals and trumpet, while march added drums, bass, double bass and electric guitar.
